Wish List Item

I just happened to visit the website for The 5 Browns today for the fun of it. For those of you who don't know who the 5 Browns are, they are 3 sisters and 2 brothers, and all of them play the piano. They are pretty amazing. I haven't heard anything from them in quite a while, though. When I clicked on the Music tab, to my surprise, I saw that they have a new CD. It's actually been out since April, so I don't know if you can still call it new or not. It is called "The 5 Browns In Hollywood." Judging by the song titles on the album, I think it will be a good one for my collection. Amazon had it for $18, but I am sure that I could find it cheaper at Borders or Barnes and Noble. Maybe even Target would have it. I look forward to getting it soon.

National Quartet Convention

Image
Carl and I went down to National Quartet Convention in Louisville, KY this past Friday. It was the first time either of us had been to NQC . I had heard a lot about it, but have never gone. We had a great time. We went to the Bill Gaither Sing-A-Long Showcase in the afternoon, and to the evening concert. The afternoon event was open seating, so we got seats near the floor, kinda close to the stage. There were quite a few artists there. I enjoyed it. One of the songs I enjoyed the most was hearing Lynda Randle sing "God on The Mountain." I love that song, and she always does an amazing job. Plus, it was one of Dad's favorites, so it means even more to me now. After the showcase, we ran into Nate Stainbrook , a friend of ours. He also happens to be my cousin Jennifer's boyfriend. Carl and I left the expo hall to check into our hotel. We got a great rate at the Holiday Inn on the south side of the airport. It was a really nice room. I think the hotel itself is pretty ...

Made me laugh!

I love these GEICO commercials!
This date will always give me goosebumps every time I hear it or write it. I know I will never forget what happened that day. I can't believe next year will be 10 years, already. It seems sometimes like it just happened yesterday. What do you remember about that day? I was home that day, I remember that I didn't have any classes that day. Mom called me and told me to turn on the radio, she said something terrible was happening. I was glued to that radio for the rest of the day. I went online to see news stories, but the details were just too much for me. I remember praying and wondering if it was the end... I remember Mom calling me again to go fill up the car with gas because everyone thought the oil prices would skyrocket. I remember NOT hearing any music on any radio stations, only news of the terrible events. I remember seeing the American flags on all the cars, and seeing the flags at half-staff for days (I think it was for a whole month) afterwards in memory of the lives ...

What do you collect?

Image
I am sure every person out there has some odd or crazy thing he or she collects. Especially when you travel...do you have a certain object you like to buy/find as a souvenir? Some collect those spoons with the location on the handle. Some like the shot glasses or keychains. Others may enjoy postcards or stamps. I am sure you can think of lots of things you could pick up when you are on vacation or visiting a new location. Me, I like to get these: For some crazy reason, I love to get these smashed pennies. They are usually pretty cheap, only 50 cents to a dollar each, and make a simple souvenir. I thought I had more of these, but maybe I gave some away. The ones here are from Texas, Arizona and Chicago. I look for these penny machines at all the tourist places. I think it's fun. May I also right here say that if you are traveling and come across one of these machines, think of me and get me one? If I may be so bold to ask for a souvenir... I would love to add to my collection!

Miller - Monroe Reunion

Image
Every Labor Day, we have a family reunion at my Grandma Miller's house. I don't remember the exact year that Grandpa and Grandma started this, but it has become a tradition. It combines my Grandpa's side of the family (Miller) and my Grandma's side (Monroe) together for one reunion. It is always nice to see family that we usually only see about once a year. We had some beautiful weather for the reunion this year. Mackenzie with a kitty Family (Monroe Side) More family (Miller side) Josh and Brooklynn Trying to get a toy out of the tree...

Symphony on the "Chilly" Prairie

Image
Saturday evening we went to Symphony on the Prairie. We make it a habit to go to the last weekend every year. They have had the River City Brass Band perform for the last weekend 17 years, I think they mentioned. Carl and I have been to the last 3, and I think I went to 2 before that. This was the first year that it was chilly. I had a light jacket on, and we had to cover up with our blanket. We also got some hot chocolate to warm us up. I felt like I was at a fall bonfire or hayride. There were some people that were bundled up like it was the dead of winter out there. It was pretty funny. Despite the chilly weather, we enjoyed ourselves. The conductor was new this year and was pretty funny, cracking jokes during the performance. Plus, he had a cool accent! Here are some pics from the evening: Pretty sunset River City Brass Band Fireworks after the performance

My new T-shirt

Image
I won this T-shirt from Kira's Cottage Christian Store in Franklin by answering a Bible trivia question. The question was "Which book in the Bible does NOT mention God's name?" Do you know the answer? I will tell you in a bit. I actually guessed one book, but it was wrong. Then I asked my mom and she gave me the right answer. I was able to go in to the store and pick put any T-shirt I wanted. I saw this one almost right away. I like the shirt for a few reasons. 1. It has my Dad's favorite Bible verse on it. 2. I like this verse myself. 3. It was free. When I wear this shirt, I know I will always think of Dad, and perhaps even feel him watching over me. The answer to the question? The book of Esther.
