Froelich's Frolics

Carl and I have been to Symphony on the Prairie several times, but never for the Independence Day performances, until this year. We went to SOTP the Saturday before the 4th, and enjoyed ourselves. Boy, was it a hot day though. The concert started at 8pm, and we got there before 7 to set up our camp chairs and walk around. I noticed this person trying to stay cool: We also saw some Revolutionary War and Civil War re-enactors. We loved the music we heard. We enjoyed some delicious kettle corn...yummy! The fireworks were fantastic. I was wanting to get a photo of the flag, and just I pressed the shutter down, the wind changed direction and the flag was waving like this. Love it! This was a fun part of our 4th of July weekend.

Saturday evening we went to Symphony on the Prairie. We make it a habit to go to the last weekend every year. They have had the River City Brass Band perform for the last weekend 17 years, I think they mentioned. Carl and I have been to the last 3, and I think I went to 2 before that. This was the first year that it was chilly. I had a light jacket on, and we had to cover up with our blanket. We also got some hot chocolate to warm us up. I felt like I was at a fall bonfire or hayride. There were some people that were bundled up like it was the dead of winter out there. It was pretty funny. Despite the chilly weather, we enjoyed ourselves. The conductor was new this year and was pretty funny, cracking jokes during the performance. Plus, he had a cool accent! Last night, we went to hear one of my favorite groups, Time for Three, at Symphony on the Prairie. It was a great evening. The weather was just about perfect, and the group out on an amazing performance, as always. They call themselves a classically trained garage band. The group is two violinists and a double bass player. They play all kinds of musical genres, everything from classical to bluegrass. I think they are awesome. One of the violinists, Zach De Pue, is actually the concertmaster for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. The guys are amazing musicians and are really down to earth people. Zach came into the picture a little late, so the pic came out blurry. :(
