Decorating the Christmas Tree

Image
The women of our church had the opportunity to decorate a Christmas Tree for the History Museum in our town this year. Each year, different organizations decorate a tree, and the townspeople come and vote for their favorite. The winning tree receives a cash prize for their organization. We thought this would be a good way to get our church name "out there" in a different sort of way. The theme we chose was "Jesus Loves the Little Children of The World." We used two small globes to top the tree, colored ribbon (red, brown, yellow, black and white) as streamers coming down from the top of the tree, and little paper dolls with children's faces on them as ornaments. We also had some buttons with flags of different countries, angels, and some other little items as well. Also, one of the women made little banners that said Merry Christmas in different languages that we put on the tree as well. Here are some pictures of our little tree. It was a fun time.

Monday Ramblings

Image
Another Monday, another random blog post. (I know you are all thrilled!) Saturday, Mom, Carl and I went to the Christmas Gift and Hobby Show at the state fairgrounds. James would have gone too, but he had to work. I bought one Christmas gift...and food. (I couldn't resist the Paradise Bakery cookies.) We went to a birthday party for my cousin Ryan, who turns 10 this week. I pretty much coughed my head off with this stupid cold that I have. I hate it. It is especially bad at night when I am trying to sleep. Laying down makes me cough more. I actually am having a coughing fit right now. I cough so hard I starting gagging...I know you are loving these details. I just do not want to be sick...:( Any suggestions on what I can do for this cough? My voice sounds absolutely lovely these days as well. You know how appealing that raspy sound is... Carl and I packed two boxes for Operation Christmas Child, one for a boy, and one for a girl. Carl will take them this week to the collec

Happy Veterans Day!

Image
Happy Veterans Day to everyone. I hope that you all thanked a Vet for their service to our country. Grandpa Miller and Dad were on my mind a lot today, both of them being veterans. Grandpa served in the Army in Germany during World War II. Dad was in the Army, and served in Panama. My uncle Donald was also in the Army, and served in several locations. Several of my great-uncles also served in the military, but I don't remember which branch of the Armed Forces. Also, my dear husband is an Air Force Vet. I don't have a picture of him from his military days. I do know that he was based in Alaska (very close to Russia), North Dakota, and Upstate New York. I am very proud of the members of my family that have served the USA, during wars or during peace time. I am very proud of them. Happy Veterans Day! Thank you for what you have done. I know this is an old music video, but I thought it was fitting.

Weekend Wrap Up

Image
We had a very relaxing weekend. We thought that we would have no set plans since the original plans for the zoo fell through. After I came home from work on Saturday, we went to our local mall. We ate lunch at Paradise Bakery and Cafe (LOVE that place!). We were very happy to see Cream of Potato on the soup list. It is one of our favorite soups. I got a salad and Carl got a sandwich to go with the soup. My yummy lunch!  Of course, I bought a few cookies. Carl likes chocolate chip, and I love their Red Velvet cookies. After lunch, we headed into JC Penney's. I was looking for a gray dress skirt. There were a couple different styles, but I didn't like them. Then we went to Christopher and Banks, which was really crowded due to their Friends and Family Sale. (Actually, the mall itself was pretty crowded. I can only imagine what it will be like the day after Thanksgiving.) I bought a blouse and a sweater. (See post below.) After the mall, we went to Family Christian Store to ge

My Christopher & Banks Deals

Image
These are the items I bought at Christopher & Banks this weekend during their Friends and Family Sale. I had received a gift card from my brother for my birthday that I had not used yet. With the gift card and the 40% off sale, I only paid about $19 for these two items. Yay for me! I love the button detail on the sweater. I actually wore the blouse today, and it was very comfortable. I can't wait to wear the sweater!

Rally Day at Church

Finally Friday!

I am so glad it is Friday! This has been one crazy week...today being the craziest! I am looking forward to chillin' out this weekend. We were planning on going to the zoo tomorrow with Jenn and Nate (Jenn got some free passes), but it is going to be too cold. Plus, Nate would be very tired from working almost all night on his feet the whole time. I do need to go to church and change the decor in the Junior Church room for Thanksgiving. Soon, it will be time to decorate for Christmas...I can't wait! Speaking of Christmas or Christmastime, it was snowing here. Not very hard, but it was snowing. It was "spittin' snow" like my dear Dad would say. This weekend, Christopher and Banks is having a "Friends and Family Sale," and I was told that everything in the store will be 40% off! Woot! As an added bonus, I have a gift card to use there. Double Woot! So, you know where I will be tomorrow...at the mall. Anyone have any good soup recipes out there? W

Easy Snack Recipe

Here is an easy snack recipe. I fixed it for our Pastor Appreciation Night, and came home with an empty bowl. It is so simple to put together. It would be a good snack for after church on Sunday nights. It is from the latest issue of Taste of Home. I like it because it is both sweet and salty....best of both worlds there. :) Sweet-Tooth Popcorn 1 package (3.3 oz) butter flavored microwave popcorn 1 pound white candy coating, chopped 1 cup peanut M&M's 1 cup Reese's Pieces 1 cup salted cashews 1 cup pecan halves Microwave popcorn according to package directions. Place in large bowl. In microwave, melt candy coating, stir until smooth. pour over popcorn and stir until covered. Combine the M&M's, Reese's Pieces, cashews, and pecans (I put all these into a large Ziploc bag and shook it up to combine); stir into popcorn mixture. Immediately spread onto wax paper; let stand until set. Break into pieces. Store in an airtight container.
