Vacation Day 3 -- Monday

Image
Monday of our vacation, we toured the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, which is about halfway between Fort Worth and Dallas. The tour was pretty cool. We were able to see the personal suite of owner Jerry Jones. We visited a suite, walked around in the locker rooms of the cheerleaders and the players, and even got to go on the football field itself. The stadium is HUGE. A lot bigger than Lucas Oil Stadium. Players locker room Carl in the end zone! Cowboy Stadium After the tour of the stadium, we made our way into Dallas. We visited the Sixth Floor Museum, which is the location of the shooting which took the life of John F. Kennedy. The museum has a lot of history. You could stay there for quite a while, looking at pictures and reading everything. Heading into the Big D Hard Rock Cafe Sixth Floor Museum After we were done at the museum, we headed back to Arlington to meet Amy at Mardel Christian Store to wait for Ted Dekker and Tosca Lee. Vacation -- Day 2

Image
Sunday morning of our vacation we attended the Saginaw First Baptist Church. It was not far from Amy's house. We went to a Sunday School class and then the Worship Service. It was different, but good. The people there were very friendly, and the sermon was Biblical. After the service we went back to Amy's house for lunch. I took my Sunday afternoon nap, like always. Sunday evening, we attended church with Amy. We went to Christ Chapel Bible Church. This was a much bigger church than the one we went to Sunday morning. Again, the people were friendly and the message was Biblical. The service was definitely more contemporary than we are used to, but still a good service.

Vacation -- Day 1

We flew out of Indianapolis on Saturday, June 9th. We left before 9am, and arrived in Dallas around 10:30, Dallas time. We had a great flight, no trouble at all. We got our luggage, and took the shuttle to the Rental Car Center. We got a nice Hyundai Elantra  to use for the week. We actually put a little over 1000 miles on the car. We drove from the airport to Fort Worth where my friend Amy lives. Amy was so kind to let us spend a few nights at her house. That really saved us a lot of money. When we got our things unpacked, we went to grab something to eat and to the store to get some groceries for the week. We wnet back to the house, where Carl played the Wii, and I took a nap. Later that evening, we all headed to the Historic part of town, the Fort Worth Stockyards. There are eating places, shops, and a museum or two. That is where the rodeo takes place every Friday and Saturday night as well. You know that you can't go to Texas and not attend a rodeo. It was pretty fun. ...

Texas Trip 2012

For our vacation this year, we made a trip to Texas. We flew from Indy to Dallas on June 9th, and returned home on the 16th. It was a great trip! We spent the first few days with my best friend Amy, who lives in Fort Worth. It was so nice of her to let us stay at her house. That saved us a lot of money. We also spent a couple days in San Antonio. I will try to do a separate post on the major things we did/places we went, but here is a brief overview of our trip. We went to the Fort Worth Stockyards (Historic part of the city) on Saturday evening for dinner and a rodeo, which was cool. You can't go to Texas and not go to a rodeo, you know. We attended two different churches on Sunday. I think it is neat to see other churches worship. The people at both churches were very friendly and welcoming. The sermons were good and Biblical. The music was a little different than what we have at our church, but still good. We toured the Dallas Cowboys stadium on Monday. That place is HU...

Titanic Museum ~ Monday

Image
Monday morning of our vacation, we went to the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge. It was really amazing. I learned a lot about that ship and the people on that tragic voyage. The outside of the museum is a replica of the ship itself, complete with iceberg. The guides are completely in character. Each visitor was given a "boarding pass" with the name and info of an actual passenger on the Titanic. We couldn't take any pictures while inside the museum due to security and copyright issues, but we took a lot of pictures outside. I loved this museum. I think this was one my favorite places we visited on our vacation.

Cades Cove ~ Great Smoky Mountain National Park

Image
Since the first day of our vacation (Saturday) was spent in driving down to Tennessee, I won't bore you with those details. I did a post on the cabin. Check that out below. Sunday morning, we drove about an hour to the Maryville Pilgrim Holiness Church. We gave ourselves plenty of time to get there. We didn't want to get there late in case we got lost. We had no trouble at all finding the church, and were greeted warmly by Brother and Sister Walden and the congregation there at Maryville. We enjoyed a great service, then made our way back to the cabin to change clothes and have lunch before going to Cades Cove for the afternoon. Well, we got a little stuck in the driveway at the cabin. Stuck as in one wheel was no longer on the road. We had to have a wrecker come and pull the car out. We finally made our way to Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We took the scenic route there. We really liked Cades Cove. I know some people think it is over-rated, but we...

Tennessee Vacation 2011

Image
Last week, we were in Tennessee celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary. We went down there on Saturday, the 11th, and came back home on Friday, the 17th. We had a great time. Carl had never been to the Smoky Mountain area before, and it had been 15 years since I last visited. A lot of new things and places were there, but there were also things that I remembered from 15 years ago. I thought I would do a few posts on some of the highlights of our trip. This one is on our cabin. Here are some pictures:  Looking at the cabin from the end of the driveway  Looking into the cabin from the bathroom doorway  Cabinets and kitchen sink  Bed area Rocking chairs on porch  Looking across the room from the bed  Fireplace  My wonderful hubby on the porch swing  What a view! We rented our cabin from Bear Camp Realty. Their office is located off the Parkway in Pigeon Forge. We chose the cabin named "Tranquility" when we made our reservation online....
